This event, recorded by Akehurst (2011), was associated with flooding in Solent. The Hythe to Fawley road was flooded. Quayside roads and shops were cut off due to flooding. Telephone lines affected when water soaked into underground cables. The quay was flooded to over a foot and water lapped around the fisherman’s cottage. Cars along the sea front were damaged when waves crashed over them. Beach huts damaged at Milford. Pubs, shops, and streets in Isle of Wight also affected by flood, including: High Street, Vectors Tavern (flooded to six inches), Bell Inn, Medina Road and The Strand, Ryde.
