Storm Event

Severity ? 1

Source

A large surge combined with 40 mph winds and 60 mph gusts caused overtopping on Barry sea front as well as a few streets in Rhoose at Newport (Young, 2018).

Pathway

At West Sands caravan park, Selsey, sea broke through the sea defences causing minor floods (Akehurst, 2011).

Receptor and Consequence

This event was associated with localised flooding at a number of locations in the Solent, Hampshire (Ruocco et al., 2011). In Langstone (Havant), occupants of one building were left marooned for two hours as the seawater inundated the high street. This event also saw flooding at Walton bay caravan park at Hinkley Point and in the gardens on the sea front near Portishead, Avonmouth (Young, 2018). High tides swept along Weymouth quayside causing 3 feet deep flood at Town Bridge area where dozen vehicles were trapped and damaged (Burrows, 2017).
