Photo Policy

SurgeWatch may invite you to make, share or submit your own, original contributions to the SurgeWatch website. These Terms of Use set out the rules governing how you may do so and how SurgeWatch may use your contribution. Your contribution may include photographs, graphics, video, audio or text. In particular, SurgeWatch relies on submissions from the public to maintain photos of high water level and coastal flood events and uses this information for research (e.g. to estimate the extent and damages that arise during such events) and promotional purposes.

If you do not want to grant the SurgeWatch permission to use your contributions in accordance with the Terms, please do not share with or submit them to SurgeWatch. If you submit your contribution to SurgeWatch you must allow SurgeWatch to use the material in your contribution in any way it may reasonably choose on a free-of-charge basis. Any contributions you make may be moderated by SurgeWatch which means they may be reviewed, edited and/or removed. You grant SurgeWatch the right to change or edit the materials in your contribution for operational and editorial reasons. SurgeWatch may also share your contribution with trusted third parties, for instance local authorities or coastal groups. Any copyright in your contribution will remain with you and this permission is not exclusive, so you can continue to use the material you contribute in any way including allowing others to use it.

The photos you upload must be your own, must not be copied, must not contain any third-party materials and/or content that you do not have permission to use, must not include any trade marks, and must not show inappropriate or dangerous behaviour, or otherwise be obscene, defamatory, distasteful, offensive, or in breach of any applicable law or regulation, or in breach of any confidentiality obligations owed by you to third parties. By uploading images you confirm that each individual whose image is featured in the photo has given consent for the use of his/her image in connection with this website and in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. Where an individual whose image is featured in the photo is aged less than 18 years you confirms that the parent or guardian of that individual has given the relevant consent.

Please do not endanger yourself or others, take any unnecessary risks or break any laws when creating any content you may share with SurgeWatch. SurgeWatch in no way endorses people placing themselves in perilous positions to take photos of high water levels or coastal flooding. SurgeWatch will not publish photos where it is apparent people have placed themselves in perilous positions to take the photo or publish photos that show people in perilous positions. By uploading your photos you give SurgeWatch permission to display these on the web site, or accompanying material and to use them for research purposes. SurgeWatch reserves the right to remove photos at any time without notice.

We normally show your name with your contribution, unless you request otherwise, but for operational reasons this is not always possible. SurgeWatch may need to contact you for administrative or verification purposes in relation to your contribution. For full details of when and how we may contact you please see our Privacy Policy. As part of your contribution, SurgeWatch may ask you to provide some personal information. Disclosure of this information shall be subject to terms set out in our Privacy Policy.
